About Me

Ella Johns is an actor and writer. She can be best described as the unexpected Southern lesbian from an alpaca farm in Alabama.

Ella has been involved in theatre since she was eight years old, appearing in four equity theatre productions at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. She went on to attend the Alabama School of Fine Arts from grades 7-12 and graduated with a Theatre Arts Major as well as art school trauma. However, she was able to play Miranda in The Tempest, a role she still believes to be her perfect type cast. She just graduated from Syracuse University with her Acting BFA in May 2025. Before graduating she appeared in two mainstage productions, one production with Syracuse Stage, and a semester of study abroad at the Globe in London.

During her time at Syracuse she also discovered her love for writing lesbian centered plays, pilots and screenplays. She has been selected for two film festivals as well as been published online. She has also just been awarded second place in the Alfred P. Sloan Script Competition at Carnegie Mellon for the best screenplay furthering the public understanding of science.

She was also able to be the 2024-2025 academic intern for Stowe Story Labs, a non-profit based out of Vermont specializing in Writers Labs and Retreats.

Overall her heart truly belongs to William Shakespeare and film. She appeared in the film The Skeleton’s Compass, which premiered on AppleTV in 2022, just directed her first short and her most recent role was as Feste in Twelfth Night! Clips from all projects can be found in her media section.

She plans to graduate from Carnegie Mellon with her MFA in Dramatic Writing this spring! After that she is moving to LA to pursue acting and writing full time.
